Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Vespa is a great little place on Daniel Island with a neighborhood feel. Not a typical "pizza joint" restaurant; as they offer mussels, calamari and a Sloppy Joe w/house made bolognese. Vespa has a good kids menu as well. They have a great outdoor patio with good tunes pumping. We've been there a number of times, including before concerts on Daniel Island. (I've seen other posts on this topic) Of course they are slammed pre and post concerts, as expected. The kitchen is small so it should be expected that service would run a but longer at these crowded times. We have always had good service and the bottled beers are always served ice cold. (more local beers on tap are recommended) Good wine selection, which is a plus when ordering the Sausage wood fired pizza; our personal favorite. Overall, great place for a date night with the wife and a good family Friday night vibe.

I love Vespa. I always get the beet salad (trying to be healthy) and pick off my husband's pizza. If beets aren't your thing then get the pizza. It is SO good. It's not your typical pizza. It's very light, not a lot of bread, a lot of flavor...not overpowering tomato sauce or cheese. When I get the pizza, I get the Bianca. PERFECTION! The bartenders there are great. They remember you...or maybe they just remember me because I go there so much...which could possible be a bad thing? If you go before the dinner rush, the bartender will let you sample whatever concoction he/she is brewing...fun, right?! The only "con" of this place is that the service is a little slow. If you are in a rush or starving, order your food to-go 30 minutes before you want it. However, if you are okay with having some drinks, chatting with friends and having some great food...this is the place for you!

I just moved here from Seattle, and I couldn't wait to find a really good artisan pizza place instead of the crappy Papa Johns, Dominoes, etc. I was really impressed when a coworker took me here. Vespa has outdoor seating (and does take reservations so that's useful on a beautiful day like today!), which I love, and a variety of options to choose from. I ordered the margherita pizza. It was delicious. It was large enough to take leftovers home, too! I would recommend this to anyone wanting a really good pizza place and/or a nice restaurant to eat at outdoors.

I cannot understand for the life of me, why this place, located on Daniel Island, was completely empty on a saturday afternoon. Walked over for lunch...located directly across the street from the Family Circle Stadium. They have a veggie pizza with artichokes, olives, broccoli, onion, tomato, and cheese with no sauce! What? No sauce? Yep! But it was drizzled with olive oil and herbs and tasted fabulous! The crust was thin and crisp. I truly enjoyed my pizza!
(4)Jeremy F.
Nice thin crust Neapolitan style pizza. Great spot for a good pizza when you can wait for dominos on the weekend. Side surprise: wicked good fries.
(3)Meghan F.
Completely unprofessional restaurant. Drunk staff taking orders. Took my credit card for my "to-go" order and came back claiming "ran out of dough". Lack of communication. Save time and don't go here!

Really, it seems impossible to make pizza that isn't good...How on earth these guys could make a pizza I seriously wanted to return I cannot understand! The crust was nice enough, thin-wise, but soggy due to the next issue, the red sauce. This literally must have been tomato sauce &+ paste smeared across the crust. It was highly acidic and bland/not tasty. How is a prosciutto and arugula pizza unyummy? Bland meat! No flavor, nor in the shavings of cheese. All around I was highly disappointed :-(. I will be continuing to drive to EVO ... Oh, and, Tiramisu! Soggy, cold, served on a plate looking as though it had been stored like that for a long time. Not light, delicate, airy, but wet / soggy. Surrounded with a bunch of dark chocolate circles that looked to be from a bag... Service was a shaggy teen. If you like the casual saunter of the millennial, this would work for you. He actually delivered the wrong pizza to me and just after I'd manually loosened the first piece he showed up and said "Whoops, I gave you the wrong pizza...can I get that back?" So did he then give that to the next person? Had anticipated and expected more but left unlikely to return.

I had a pizza and a few beers. Quick and easy service. As with many Americans, I've had my unfair share of pizzas from every imaginable place. In fact I place 2/3rds of my spare tire to pizza dough. But in all my pizza eating, I've never had a pizza taste so good. I ate at the bar, the bartender was pretty cool and it was nice the guy didn't disappear as many waitresses do.
(5)Little L.
Love this place. We eat here 2-3 times a week. Kids love it. Beet salad is great. Their specials are always delicious. Just wish they would get rid of that silly coin prize machine in the back.
(5)Candace J.
I wish I could still eat pizza because theirs is fantastic. The mussels are glorious. Salads are also good but be sure to order dressing on the side otherwise your salad will be swimming in dressing. The patio area is really nice to use when the weather is nice.

Best pizza in Charleston? Yeah, not quite.... As a native north-easterner, I am a self-proclaimed pizza snob. But I know better. I have accepted the fact that I'm not going to get the caliber of pie that I have come to know and love in Philadelphia, but that doesn't mean I can't find a gem or two in the rough, right? Well, Vespa is NOT it. Ignore the reviews. It's overpriced and lacks real flavor. Sure, the menu reads of wonderful combinations that would seem to back flip atop your taste buds, but that's all for not when it isn't prepared right. The pizzas are small, so they are easily overcooked and dried out. To be fair, I have given this joint two chances. Both were a miss; especially the Bella. Hey, I am all about fresh arugula, but when it overpowers the rest of the ingredients, it's no beuno. The only two redeeming qualities are the salads and the large outdoor seating area. The greens come in generous portions. The small is plenty for one, or even two to share if you're having it as a first course. So please... Do yourself a favor and order something other than pizza if you are forced to come here.
(2)Bruce K.
Good pizza that's not quite Chicago or New York - it's Neopolitan. I let the waiter convince me to have the chicken and broccoli, which he said was his favorite. I can see why - neither the chicken nor the broccoli overwhelmed the subtle flavor of the cheese. Thin crust and round shaped, cut into triangles. Wood baked, it had some blackened bits out by the edges but was otherwise excellent. One pie is enough for one person, but it was too much that I wasn't able to consider a dessert. Next time, I might have to give the lasagna a try. One of the diners at the next table over had it and it looked excellent. Note: Peroni on tap!
(4)Cassie C.
One of the most solid performers on the island, my love stems from the pizza special of the day, usually with a choice from the nice wine selection. Last night I got a simple but delicious Caesar salad with the addition of smoked chicken and bacon. I had heard from others to go with light dressing which I did. It was excellent. Husband had chicken parm pasta which was also delicious. The outdoor patio was partially closed due to expansion, so you might want to call if you want to sit outside in the next few days.
(5)Steven P.
Nothing special. I am not at the picky eater but the hot wings are not good and the pizza I give it two stars not for the price.
(2)Emily D.
vespa is my favorite restraunt on daniel island. it has wonderful tastey food dishes and mouth watering deserts! they service is a tad slow but the waiters love to get talking and interact with the customers. the manager, Don Bunting is very greay. has a positive attitude and he is freinds with all if the customers. i am always refering this to my family and friends
(4)Cliff G.
As an owner of a VPN (Verace Pizza Napoletana pizzanapoletana.org/inde… ) certified Neapolitan pizzeria I have to say this was the best wood-fired pizza in the Charleston area. My manager and I made a special trip to Charleston this past Monday just to try out the various wood-fired pizzerias in the Charleston Area. The bad reviews here are from people who just don't understand or have a clue that this is not your typical American style pizza. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. We did not tell them who we were until after we had eaten. I commend their manager as he went out of his way to make us feel at home, answering questions and talking about the struggles and successes they have encountered. I highly recommend if your in the area you stop by and enjoy a pie but please have an open mind and if you go in with an open mind I'm sure you will enjoy your experience.
(5)Malana B.
Great pizza, cold beer and friendly staff. I would be a regular if I lived in the area.
(5)K D.
2nd time eating here over a long weekend. Delicious pizzas (including the kids') and Greek salad.
(5)Carman M.
My hubby and I eat here on a regular basis. The staff is awesome and accommodating to special orders. The Greek pita is spectacular! My hubby always gets the chicken pita and substitutes prosciutto with bacon...delish! You can't go wrong with any pizza or pasta! The prices are very reasonable too!
(5)Sarah M.
Nothing like watching the manager/owner flirt with underage high schoolers to ruin your appetite. Waited 40 minutes for disappointing soup and French fries. It was not even that crowded. No one came to check on us to see if we needed anything.
(1)Robyn P.
Went to dinner on Mother's Day with 8 others. Waited over 1 hour after ordering food. Every time we got up to ask for drinks (yes we had to ask) or check on food the manager told us soon. We were treated rudely. Management never apologized or explained delays. Worst service ever in the 11 years I have lived in this town. Food was mediocre. Very disappointing. Many other great places to eat in Charleston who provide excellent service and actually want your business. Crossed this off my list. Will never go back
(1)William S.
When there is a concert right across the street from your restaurant, you should be aware of it. This place is totally missing out on so much $$$$$$$. I suggest multiple beer tubs w attractive people selling over priced beers. Have pizza sold by the slice on concert days. There is a huge open patio for plenty of kiosks to sell beer, liquor, and food. We waited for about 20 minutes once sat to get just a water. I'm always surprised how people go in business that don't have a business mind. Crazy. Probably a cool place when nothing is going on. Tonight I'm just excited to go see Hootie and the Blowfish. Time to speed outa Vespa
(2)Scotty C.
After my initial experience with Vespa, I figured they deserved another chance. As I initially stated, I wanted to like the place, but I didn't get an opportunity to try the food. Some time passed and I decided to give Vespa another shot. My experience made me want to definitely update my review from a one star to a four star! I came in on the Sunday following the Wide Spread Panic show and it was pretty slow. I was happy with that so I could get some food and relax watching the end of the game on TV. The day before, leading up to the concert, was a mad house on DI so this was a welcomed difference. We started off with a Caprese Salad to share. It was a good size for the money and a better than average quality. The kicker was the reduction on the side... more of that please. Much better than just a balsamic drizzle on top. Mix that up with the fresh basil, mozzarella, and tomato for the perfect bite. For entree's my friend ordered the Chicken Parmesan. It was huge so she offered me a taste. The chicken was flattened out and breaded as it should be. Not just a chicken breast thrown on top of some spaghetti. The most unique part of the dish were the bucatini noodles. I hadn't had them before and really enjoyed the consistency of the long hollow noodles compared to an angel-hair or ziti pasta. I really wanted to get a pizza to see what I was missing out on before. I was torn between a couple choices but the waiter suggested I go with my gut and opt for their most popular sausage, pepperoni, and bacon. No mistake here. Out came a gourmet style thin crust pizza from the wood fired oven. It had just the right amount of char on it without being burnt and the toppings were plentiful. I typically order normal pizza well done but these Neapolitan style ones are done just the way I like them. The trio of meats were excellent and worked well together without overtaking the flavor of the sauce and cheese. It was excellent. I figured the food would be good but, my issue before lied in the staff. I must say that I dealt with multiple members of the staff and they were all polite and attentive. The only issue was that my friend ordered a "brunch special" drink and it was initially forgotten. When we reminded the waiter, it was after "brunch special" time so we were charged full price for it. The drink was brought out after a reminder and a quick fix on the check was no issue at all. It was taken care of quickly and professionally. Unfortunately, my Patriots lost that day but Vespa had a big win. After my initial experience, they made a huge comeback and I will definitely be back for more. Although now I have the dilemma of sticking with the pizza that I have already had and loved, or charter into unknown territories of the menu.

I really like Vespa. Not a large selection of beer on tap, but normally very good choices. I've been there about 5 times now, lunch, dinner and a few beers with folks, and always enjoyed the food. It's a comfortable place and the service is normally very good. I'll be a regular!
(4)Katie K.
We were visiting from out of town and looking for something that was in a local area. We heard about Vespa Pizza and decided to give it a try. Absolutely loved the chef creative specials that they had to offer! The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for on a Saturday night. The chef truly utilizes the wood fired oven in the most spectacular ways. The pizzas were not only amazing but the tiny details that came into our meals were noticeable. We will definitely be back anytime we come into town.
(5)Dylan D.
My friends told me this place isn't too speedy with their service. The two times I have visited - I had a great time. Food arrived on time and the server was great. The pizza was good and they have some great craft beers on tap. . Outdoor seating is very nice and they often have fans to create a gentle breeze on those hot Charleston days. SIDE NOTE: I left my Ray Bans sunglasses at the table outside. I called about 5 hours later to see if they were discovered and sure enough - the server had grabbed them and was waiting for my call. The glasses were a gift to me and very special and I'm thankful for his honor! Great place! I will return!
(4)Jean S.
Some of the best pizza in the area (though best eaten in not as take out). Just a great neighborhood joint that is always welcoming and accommodating. Noisy inside, especially when lots of young families are there but that adds charm to the place. Lots of outdoor seating.
(4)Deetz H.
Hit or miss. We've come and had good pizzas and good service and we've had disappointing service and disappointing food. It's sort of a Sunday night but Orlando's is closed and we have to go somewhere spot for us.
(3)Elizabeth F.
Good, but extremely slow. We only work 8 miles away and still couldn't get back within an hour. It took 45 minutes just to get our pizzas.
(3)Jane G.
Vespa was the perfect choice for entertaining out-of-town guests for upscale pizza, fresh salads, and a great selection of beers.
(4)Lee K.
Ordered the arugula and prosciutto pie for us and a pepperoni for the kids. The first tasted very fresh and had great flavor. We enjoyed the crispy crust as well as the side order of amped up fries. We called in for take out and they were very nice.
(4)stephanie b.
Never been here but will never order the pizza after reading the reviews and the managers horrible response.
(1)Richard S.
Good pizza with fresh ingredients and a yummy Italian-style thin crust that I love. Casual, strip mall-ish environment that is dressed up with some art and creativity here and there. Good for families but it would also work for a casual date.
(4)Jennie B.
Great fois a deux Chardonnay! Great food! We'll be back!
(4)LIsa H.
Here we go: Quality of all food products gets a 5-star. Pizza's are wonderful, 8-10" personal size. My husband and I often go and split a salad and a pizza which is great. The downside to the this place is the overpriced beer and wine. Who doesn't want a few drinks with pizza? I get that Vespa is trying to be a "classy" pizza joint but come on, you have kids running around all over the place, TV's scattered throughout, and waiters/waitresses in T-shirts. Why are you charging $5 for a 12 oz Peroni??? For this Vespa lost one star. They lost another star the day they stopped their nightly specials which included: Tuesdays, buy one get one free pizza!! and Wednesday 50% of a bottle of wine!! Come on people!!! Bring these back and lower the price a Peroni and this girl will be in heaven!
(3)Linda L.
The pizza-sparse toppings, the crust didn't taste wood-fired even though it was. It cost over $75 for 4 of us and we left hungry! Three of us had pizza and we had one incredibly small antipasti plate-no wine, just waters. We will definitely not return-even though the outside seating is pleasant and inviting.
(2)Adrienne B.
Service was friendly and attentive. The pizza was delicious today!
(4)Kellyn M.
Went here with my parents - my dad is Italian so he knows good pizza. Ours (all 3 of them) were burnt on the bottom, some more than others. The prices, honestly - a little outrageous at least for dinner. Personally, I think they need some tweaking. We were watching the guys make the pizzas and it was clear that they were NOT pizza makers. My vote still goes to Orlando's Pizza on Daniel Island. Now THAT is fantastic pizza and not expensive, either. Vespa - I like what you've done with the place but you need to work on those pizzas.
(3)Ed R.
Glad I gave it a second try. The first time was when we first moved to the island and the pizza was just bad, My wife picked it up and we ate while unpacking. This experience was much better, I went inside and had chicken parm sandwich as I was a little reluctant to eat pizza again, the sandwich was good! The service was really good, cool vibe inside and a great patio. I have to tell you the sink in the men's room is really small (contemporary design), when I walked in I thought it was a urinal! All that said give the place a shot I think it's worth a visit, I will be back and may give the pizza a Second chance as well.
(4)Matthew L.
In the battle of "fancy pants" pizzas along 526 I'd say Evo is still the clear winner but Daniel Island has a welcome addition with Vespa Pizzeria. I bet the outside seating would be perfect on a warmer or less windy day. Place was clean & had a nice feel. Staff was friendly and professional as well - I would be too if I had the promise in my future of delivering pizzas around Daniel Island on a Vespa scooter. Certainly would beat my days mucking around Kentucky for Dominos in a Saturn 4 door reeking of cigarettes and pizza, and held together by duct-tape (No exaggeration, just ask my wife about getting bonked in the head by a piece of interior paneling on our first date when the tape lost it's stickum.) Okay, enough about redneck towns with dime draft (yes, you heard that right, too) and people smoking in the grocery store produce section - let's get back to Vespa. Started with the White bean garnished w/ truffle oil. I too was surprised by the pureed white bean soup. I puree at least part of most soups I cook but hadn't seen a fully-pureed bean soup. It had a very good flavor and the beans weren't cooked to "mush" so you still get a bit of texture. Next was the prosciutto pizza and the large amount of arugula worked well with the blend of cheeses. Crust was substantial enough to hold the toppings and was baked almost to perfection - little inconsistency in the center-most points. I wasn't that impressed with how the meat played out on that pizza - nearly impossible to eat and there was a lightly "off" aroma reminding me more of seafood than prosciutto. I'm a meat lover of all types, shapes & sizes, but it just didn't work. There are a couple other enticing options on the pizza menu and I found the bolgnese pasta quite compelling. Next time... I stopped drinking average domestic beers once I stopped drinking 12 in a sitting so I expect to pay a bit more, but 6 bones for a brown ale draft was a bit high. Maybe the Daniel Island diggs necessitates it. I would normally give this place 3 stars overall, especially since there is another great place in relatively close proximity but will throw down a 4 star for promise.
(4)Leo L.
My boyfriend had been there about 3 years ago and had a negative experience. Recently, we noticed that it was busy on several occasions, so we figured we give it another shot. That is the last time we will go there. The food was very bland. I had the caprese salad with "North Carolina shrimp". The shrimp was overcooked and definitely not fresh. My boyfriend had the chicken Parmesan which tasted more like cardboard Parmesan. You'd do better with a frozen dinner.
(2)Diana T.
Great place! Relaxed. Family friendly. Good food. Had house made peach gelato tonight for dessert :)
(5)Jenni F.
I picked my homegirl up for lunch today and we decided to try this place. She's been here before as she lives on the island and really likes it. We walked in for lunch and it wasn't very crowded. The vibe is very trendy, and the service was great. It is a super cute restaurant (with MUCH more ambiance then it's predecessor, Soda Water Grill). The place serves local and sustainable ingredients, a big plus for both of us. Since I had pizza last night I decided to go with the white bean soup and a candied pecan, goat cheese and roasted beet salad. The salad was very large and fab-o! I expected the soup to be whole beans, but it was pureed. It had truffle oil in it and was yummy, but very, very heavy. In fact, 7 hours later and after a grueling 1.5 hr hot yoga class I'm still full from it! The pizza smelled delicious and my friend's food looked yummy. It was a grilled sandwich made of homemade pepperoni, hand pulled mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes. It came with a side of Caesar salad, all for only $8!! She said it was super good. This place is supposed to have a fun night vibe so we will definitely take the hubbys and go one night when we can drink!!
(4)Matt K.
I'm just passing through town and had dinner at Vespa. I had the steak pizza because I had a similar pizza at a place in DC and loved it. The toppings included caramelized onions, gorgonzola, and of course, steak. The crust was nice and crispy, though it got a little thin and soggy toward the center. That didn't keep me from eating the whole pie though. Very tasty.
(4)Kathleen H.
Great place to have lunch. The pizzas are delicious, the atmosphere is relaxed (and spotless), the service is super-attentive. In fact, I wondered why it wasn't full of people?! My first test for any pizzeria is the margherita and Vespa's meets my expectations. It's the perfect lunch escape, and you can get your pizza fix for just under $10.
(4)Brett M.
We went to Vespa during restaurant week and loved it! The decor and outdoor seating was wonderful. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and just cool. We had drinks and salads to start both of which were really nice. They have a unique draft option and a couple nice wines. The salads were delicious and fresh. We both ordered a pizza and they were really different which was refreshing. Evo still has the best Margarita pizza but my veggie selection was awesome and unique. The tiramisu and smores desserts were both delicious. We loved the whole experience.
(4)Renee P.
Authentic but pricey. Can't imagine how they will stay in business another year. Daniel Island needs family homestyle cooking type restaurants.
(3)Sophie C.
Quick and simple: My boyfriend and I came in for the first time. I think it was the owner who greeted us and he is very friendly. I have no qualms with the friendliness of the staff or the very cute decor. What I do have a problem with is the food. The pizza was COLD when it was brought to us. We ordered the Prosciutto Pizza and there WAS NO CHEESE! Just tomato sauce, a few slices of prosciutto and tomato sauce and it was topped with a huge salad! Nothing in the menu indicated there would be a salad on the pizza! I am a personal trainer, so I love salad but I do think it made the pizza cold, and it would have been nice to have cheese (the menu said there would be cheese). We were too tired to complain but we decided we would most likely not be back ever again even though we do live on Daniel Island. If the food changes for the better and I hear about it, then maybe I would come back. For now, it's a NO.
(2)Jason K.
This review really deserves 3.5 stars. 3 stars for the food. The pasta dishes were pretty good but I wasn't too impressed with the pizzas. 4 stars for the service and the physical restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is not too big but the layout is nice. There is a pretty nice bar on one side and a pool table on the other. Their ovens are somewhat in the "open air" so there is a nice ambiance. Their website has been advertising "delivery coming soon" since they opened but haven't seen anything else yet. Sometimes I get real lazy after work and would appreciate delivery.
(4)Jen S.
Love Vespa! Everytime we visit Charleston area we go for lunch or dinner! Staff is welcoming and attentive. Great food and fun for kids and parents. I love to be able to have a nice glass of wine and good food with whole family
(5)Stacey S.
I am not a Vespa Pizza fan. Ever since opening night (my first visit) I've been consistently underwhelmed. It's okay, but nothing better than Orlandos down the street.
(2)Justin M.
Food was great and ha great service. Recommend sitting outside!!
(5)Lungfish L.
this place has matured - have been back to this place a handful of times for lunch since the first review - service is very good - pizzas rock - and the menu has grown up.....love it and love the turkey sandwich....
(4)Joseph M.
This place is great. I've been here for lunch 10+ times and the food and service has always been good. All the different wood-fired pizza I have had has been excellent - prosciutto, margherita, pepperoni-bacon-sausage, fungi, biaca and the bella. The chicken parm sandwich is also very good. The chicken is cooked up fresh with a crisp/crunch crust. Always moist and tender. The chicken - a big breast - is big and overhangs the bun. The Vespa salad is another go-to pick. Always fresh. Always cold and crisp. Always good. Lastly, on nice days, they have the outdoor cafe seating. I have spent many lunches sitting outside with colleagues and not wanting to leave. I would recommend Vespa to friends and colleagues.
(4)Steve M.
Vespa has really grown on us. From a place we first visited and wondered if the pizza was being made one slice at a time to much improved service and good specials. I also think that there's a subconscious reason why I like Vespa: The Ice. This is not your typical cubed or chunked ice being served in the drinks. It's just the right size and doesn't water down your beverage. Am I the only one? Vespa's menu works well for a quick lunch on Daniel Island, a place to stop after work for a beverage (bonus points for Peroni on tap), or a take away pizza and pasta. The calamari with red onion and marinara are a good starter. The meatball appetizer is nice too. In the mood for a sandwich? The Chicken Parmesan and Greek Pita are good. Really nice hand cut fries too. We usually take a look at the pasta specials first. There's usually something good on the menu. The Shrimp Rigatoni is the stand-by choice. Can't go wrong with the Margherita pizza or the Crispy Prosciutto and Pineapple. They also do a kids pizza that's good too. Recently tried on of the Calzone specials and had to take half of it home. Good dough and some pesto inside that make it all work. Good location in the Daniel Island area. Reasonable prices. Specials on the menu worth a look. And the ice....there's something about the ice. Reviewer's Note: Raising a young family in Charleston after years of living and traveling abroad. Restaurant reviews are based on at least two visits.
(4)Scott P.
Very disappointing. I've heard many people talk about this place, but the food was not great. My chicken parm was incredibly salty and the Caesar salad had zero flavor. Their pizza is good, but is not by any means something I would want to have regularly. For pizza on DI - checkout Orlando's Pizza and for pasta go to Lidi. I will say, the restaurant is very clean.
(2)Amanda D.
Went for a Saturday lunch with my mom and we shared a pizza and a chicken pita. The pizza was Thin crust, thick slices of pepperoni and wood fired however I think the sauce was made of canned tomatoes. (Not bad though). The chicken pita was a little dry, the chicken was flavored with lemon juice only. I ended up adding hot sauce and mom added ranch which made it much better! Love the atmosphere and smell of the place! Internet was advertised as available however when I asked how to use the lady told me that it hardly ever works :(
(3)P R.
Not very good. Contrary to some other reviews, it was not the service. The pizzas were not good. Got 2 - a margarita and a prosciutto; neither were hot; the prosciutto was too big and thick (more like ham slices). Neither were very tasty. Look elsewhere.
(1)Megan D.
Not bad, but not great. Went here with some coworkers for dinner and were told they were only serving pizza and salad options due to low staff. It wasn't very busy at the time, but we sat and waited for our server for 10-15 minutes before even getting our drink orders placed. As far as the food goes, my husband and I split the black and bleu salad and a margherita pizza. The salad was delicious, fresh with a great balsamic dressing. The pizza sauce, however, tasted like it was made from canned tomatoes. Probably won't be going back for a second visit.

This is a place you can totally skip. The pizza was delicious as was everything else, but I've been in there 4 times and every time, it's the world's slowest service. If you can squeeze in a 2 hour lunch, then by all means, eat at Vespa. I went with a co-worker 3 times for lunch and every single time, we had to take our pizza to go because we sat waiting. and waiting. and waiting. And we were the only ones in one half of the restaurant. Honestly, if they weren't all the way on DI, I think they would be out of business. They are lucky they get all the folks who work on DI who don't feel like leaving the island to spend their money there.

Stopped in for lunch with my husband today. Quick bite- we both ordered the arugula and beet salad. Personally, anything with goat cheese is pure perfection. Service was good. A nice quick meal to get out of the office. One day I'll actually order the pizza here.

I visited for lunch. It was too hot to sit on the patio but it would be a great spot to have drinks on a nice day. The turkey pita was delicious. The combination of fontina, crunchy apples, and spicy arugula was very good. Chose the Caesar salad as my side. Usually side salads are unremarkable but this was quite good. Cold, crisp lettuce with a surprisingly light lemony dressing. Restaurant was clean and our server was attentive.

Go to pizza place on daniel island. I'm a regular and my favorite salad is the goat cheese and beet. The white pizza as well as the mushroom are consistently good. Great deal is the Saturday night special two pizzas and a bottle of wine for $35. Can't beat that! Courtyard is cozy if you prefer eating outdoors. Me thinks the music is for the help and not patrons so you will hear football games playing over their speakers and not dining mood music. Whatever it is the South! Family friendly and attentive staff

I love love love the vespa salad with grilled chicken. Out of all their delicious sounding options, its the last one I would normally pick...until a friend introsuced me to it. Not many restaurants that pickle their own veggies! Sometimes though, they are out of "all pastas and sandwiches" which is a little odd. Also a little pricey and you can only get whole personal pizzas.

Great place on the island. Pizzas are very good. Get the meat one. Pasta is excellent as well. Meatballs are outstanding. Lasagna is good. A bar for adults. A bar where kids can watch the pizza makers do their thing. Outdoor dining is awesome. Hands down the best French Fries ever!!! Perfect for adding Malt Vinegar, not that you need to.
